We're proud to bring great films to the community we love.

We reopened the Majestic Theatre in 2005 after the space had been closed for over a year. We met in college, studying music and theater, where we developed a passion for exceptional entertainment and storytelling.
The people of Gunnison County are independent, passionate, and discerning, and we hope our film selection reflects that. The Majestic proudly provides year-round income to some of the most friendly, dedicated, and often-hilarious cinephiles in Gunnison County.
The Majestic Theatre is 100% powered by humor and nerdery. Every time you visit the Majestic Theatre, you are supporting a small crew of grateful year-round locals. Thank you for supporting our independent cinema!

Movies are the most powerful empathy machine in all the arts. When I go to a great movie I can live somebody else's life for a while. I can walk in somebody else's shoes. I can see what it feels like to be a member of a different gender, a different race, a different economic class, to live in a different time, to have a different belief.
This is a liberalizing influence on me. It gives me a broader mind. It helps me to join my family of men and women on this planet. It helps me to identify with them, so I'm not just stuck being myself, day after day.
The great movies enlarge us, they civilize us, they make us more decent people.
-Roger Ebert, film critic

“I know from deep personal experience how a movie can elevate my spirit— whether I’m learning about a new element of the human experience from a documentary or I’m enjoying a beautiful piece of escapism. There’s no shame in enjoying escapism, in my opinion!

I am happiest at the Majestic Theatre when I am watching a mainstream film that might broaden the perspective of an audience member, or might help someone feel less alone in the world. Those moments make me so proud to own the Majestic Theatre.”

-Allison Drucker

“I am proud of the independent spirit of the Majestic Theatre. Most cinemas in the US are run by large companies, who often have partnerships exclusively with other large companies. We strive to pick films that will appeal to our unique community, and those films can be very different than what is popular in our country as a whole. We also try to reflect our community’s preferences with choices like gourmet chocolate, real butter and coconut oil for our popcorn, and liquors from Colorado. We could run a movie theater that is just like all the other cookie-cutter cinemas in the US, but that wouldn’t honor what is special about living in Crested Butte.”
